R Anderson TO CELEBRATE CELEBRATE the remodeling program of ot the Maeser landmark prizes and a grand prize of no gift gilt certificate will be given When first purchasing the store property in Maeser Mr Anderson had plans to teardown tear teardown teardown down the structure and build a anew anew anew new store in fact tact had assigned a boy to start the wrecking process but later found the old building so well constructed he changed his mind and decided to remodel the structure Originally the store was built by Verdin and Marie Johnson in November of 1928 The foll following wing July two men came into the store who were drunk and threw a cigarette in some same wrapping paper by the back door which caught fire and resulted in burning the store to the ground recalled the Johnsons WITH THE TilE aid of a crew of men the store was rebuilt in two months While it was being rebuilt the Johnsons set up a abig abig abig big tent and sold the stock that was saved along with ice cream bananas etc They had very little Insurance urance but with some help from their banker they did very well and were back In business again They carried earned a good stock of drugs dry goods hardware groceries gas and even sold cars Many stockman along with a large num number er of townspeople traded at the store In 1955 Johnsons sold the store to Don Pierce He kept It a short time and sold it to Mark Pope who in turn sold it to Rulon Ashby After a short time Mr Ashby sold it to L L. L A A. A Timothy Mr Timothy operated the store for a couple of years and then moved across the street THE TilE BUILDING stood empty for 17 years and was purchased by Wallace R R. and LaVar Anderson Anderson An An- derson demon three years ago With the help of John remodeling work was begun about the first of June 1975 and the inside completed in June of 1976 Since selling out the inventory at West Main in May of 1975 A L has continued doing business from their homes and from the building while the remodeling was going on More remodeling is planned for the outside as time permits |
