Show co oper action at atuhs UHS by frank W wright vie vice principal the total enrollment of the uintah high school at the close of the first semester was egg 689 students in the six grades during the first half of the year which ended on january 12 forty eight students studcntfi studentm studen tm have discontinued t and thl thirty t five new ones have enrolled ight tght eight of the di discontinued students have married five have been released because of inability to adjust two have entered military service and the balance have moved from the community the attendance record during the first six weeks of the school year was 02 92 62 the second six weeks it fell to 89 8093 93 and the third six weeko weeki weekq it again raised to 91 55 the attendance drop in the second term was due to the deer hunting season the average number absent per day Is usually between 6 and 10 or about 65 students per day the friday preceding the deer hunt the number absent went to 127 and on the following monday 173 students failed to report to classes the dally daily average absent for the balance of the deer season was 100 during the second term the uintah ulntah ttintah school district lost 1105 1195 of state funds because of the high rate of absenteeism the absence during the first semester averaged 69 per day for a grand total of 5954 days or a loss financially to the district of 5580 all funds from the state are distributed on the basis of the average dally daily attendance the excessive absences cut the funds down to the point where one and one half classroom units was lost during the first semester these absences are spread over the entire school a few in each room which prevents the elim bination inatlon ination of these units the ex penses benses of operation supplies a and n d maintenance continues while the income decreases arel many of these absences are unnecessary but with the parents P consent the student 1 Is out u ri of school several excellent students have been absent IS 15 or more tunes times A check of the records indicated that at the present time only 17 students at the uintah ulntah ufntah high school have perfect attendance records this is ex j citionalik cItI ceptlonally onalIK low especially as on only in y one hall alf of the school year haspassed has passed cooperation between theporne thep the home orne and school Is needed to eliminate tun unnecessary necessary absence J |
