Show ' ldq from other editor! 1 From The Beacon, Lake Charles, Louisiana: Before hiring an employee, em-ployee, the man who has to "meet the pay-roll" will weigh the applicant appli-cant for honesty,, being a man of his word, sincerity and ability to do the job. Business doesn't hire people they doubt business doesn't hire people peo-ple simply because they belong to the same church or fraternal organization; or-ganization; they don't hire people because they like the way the individual combs his hair. They want producers; they expect effort; they demand honesty. The man who has to "meet the pay-roll" expects something for his money. He demands a report of every transaction, especially matters that concern his money. If he doesn't get. a full accounting for every cent of his money, he gets rid of the employee. -Government and the handling of the people's money Is the biggest business In these United States, yet the people who do the hiring of public officials, (which is done under our Democratic system by voting) give little or no thought to weighing every candidate Just as vigorously as they would If they were hiring someone to run their business fo. them. Considering Consider-ing the fact that government is big business, considering the fact that the manner In which government govern-ment Is operated affects the lives of every man, woman and child. It la high time we give more serious consideration as to the people we elect as public officials. Know more about them, make sure your better Judgment Indicates that office seekers meet every require- 1 ment you would expect of someone you personally were putting on your payroll Discount political promises, turn a deaf ear to the pre-election bally-hoo of the professional pro-fessional politician. Let's elect people peo-ple to political office who have had ; business experience, people who know the value of other people's money, and conduct the big business busi-ness of government in a practical, I sensible business-like manner. Business men, men who till the soil, people who believe in, and will be Instrumental in the operation of a government of the people, by the people and for the people. We I see examples of the "do nothing" i professional politician every day. Good government rests with the people in their selection of the men they "hire" by casting that precious vote. Let's put the business of govern- ' ment on a sound, business basis by careful selection of public I officials. ' |
