Maeser 3rd grabs 22-9 win over Vernal 6vh soy ; bailers Maeser 3rd's lead had dropped to three runs after five innings of action, but they decided the w inner in the first championship game in the Senior Multi-Region Softball Tournament, Saturday with three runs in the sixth and seven in the seventh inning for a 22 to 9 triumph over Vernal 6th to force the tourney into a second championship champion-ship game. A 2-0 lead w as gained by Maeser 3rd in the top of the first inning. Ralph Warby gained a double w hen he hit the ball over the outfielder's head. Clay Slade singled and Warby scored on a fly ball by Clay Hacking. Mike Reynolds singled and Slade crossed home plate with Maeser's second run. The Vernal 6th team was blanked in the bottom of the first inning and a double by Kyle Batty was wasted as he was stranded in the top of the second se-cond inning by Maeser 3rd. One run w as scored by Vernal 6th in the bottom of the second inning to cut Maeser 3rd's lead to one run at 2-1. Tim King was w alked with one out and Shawn King got on the base paths on an error. A single by Scott Hymas scored Tim King. Jeff McLean flied out for the final out of the inning. A five run advantage of 6 to 1 was gained by Maeser 3rd in the top of the third inning. Parker reached first base on an overthrow and scored on a single by Ralph Warby. Slade and Hacking flew out, but Mike Reynolds doubled to drive in Warby as the ball hit by Reynolds was dropped at the fence by a Vernal 6th outfielder. Powers' base hit was dropped and Reynolds crossed cross-ed home plate. Scott Kavanaugh singled singl-ed to drive in Powers with a 6-1 advantage. Vernal 6th scored one run in the bottom bot-tom of the sixth inning to cut the Maeser lead to four runs at 6-2. Kirk Migliori got on base on a fielder's choice and Tesar singled with two outs to knock in Migliori. Maeser 3rd matched Vernal 6th's one run and added three more runs for a 10-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning. inn-ing. Quint Slade got on base on an error, er-ror, but was forced out at second. Charles Richens was safe at first base on an overthrow and an error placed Parker on first and scored Richens. Warby flied out and a single by Clay Slade sent home Parker. Two errors placed Hacking and Reynolds on the base paths and Slade and Hacking scored to give Maeser 3rd a 10-2 lead. Vernal 6th scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tim and Shawn King singled and Tim King scored on a double by Hymas. McLean singled in Shaw n King. Migliori singled singl-ed and Hymas scored Vernal 6th's fifth run. McLean was tagged out at third for the final out. Errors continued to bug Vernal 6th and Maeser 3rd took full advantage as they scored two counters for a 12-5 lead. Kavanaugh reached second base on an error and Quint Slade singled with one out. Kavanaugh scored on a fielder's choice by Richens and Parker gained a double on an error to send home Richens with a 12-5 lead. Warby War-by flied out for the third out. Vernal 6th forgot its errors and scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to slice Maeser 3rd's lead to three runs at 12-9. Phillips led off with a double and Tesar singled. Phillips scored on a fly ball by Dave King. Tim King singled in Tesar and scored on a two run homer by brother, Shawn King. Maeser 3rd's three run lead became a six run lead due to three runs in the top of the sixth inning.
