Los Alamivos pockeis Wesv Zone Tournament crown By Aldon Rachele Express Sports Editor Los Alamitos remained undefeated in West Zone Bronco Tournament action ac-tion when they defeated Santa Susana, Susa-na, 7 to 3, for first place honors and a trip to the Bronco World Series in St. Joseph, Missouri, Aug. 18-25. An error placed Mike Jenkins on first base with one out, but Sean Swearinger flied out to the second baseman and Brian Diedrich popped out to the catcher to end the bottom of the second inning. A bunt by Scott of Los Alamitos with two outs, was wasted in the top of the third inning as Croce was retired on three strikes. The first two batters on the Santa Susana team, Holguin and Spach, were retired by Los Alamitos, but Hill was hit by the pitcher and Aurand drilled a shot into the outfield. Hill also advanced to second base on the hit by Aurand as the Ixs Alamitos outfielder caught up with the baseball in quick fashion. The two runners were stranded strand-ed by Santa Susana in the bottom of the third inning as Baumgartner flied out to the centcrfiekler. Los Alamitos had a shot at scoring runs in the top of the fourth inning, but confusion reigned on the base paths and zero runs were added to the California team's total. Eric Caeser grounded out and Garman struck out, but a high throw to first base placed Blancq on the bag. Scanlon was walked walk-ed to place two men on the base paths. Bergeon bunted the ball down the third base line and Blancq froze between third and home. Blancq started to back to third base, but noticed Scanlon heading toward the bag. Blancq changed his mind and started running toward home. Scanlon headed tow ard second base. Blancq smashed into the Santa Susana catcher and was tagged tagg-ed out at the plate for out number three. Anguiano grounded out and Los Alamitos pitcher, Mark Wasikowski struck out Jenkins. Swearinger reached reach-ed first base on an error, but remained remain-ed there as the final batter in the bottom bot-tom of the fourth inning. Diederich grounded out. Scott turned in a solid shot for a single with two outs in the top of the fifth inning for Ixs Alamitos. but he was stranded on the base path as the final batter was whiffed. The bases w ere crow ded in the bottom bot-tom of the fifth inning for Santa Susana, Susa-na, but they were unable to come up with the key base hit and nobody celebrated at home plate.
