Fish pond attracts 350 'scramblers' If 350 kids in a pond of water "scrambling" to catch a prize fish is any indication of the success of Dinosaur Day last Saturday, then the day was a mammoth success. The day began with the KVEL triathalon-marathon. Teams in the triathalon ran, swam and bicycled in relay fashion to compete in the event. The KVEL team finished 18 minutes before any other. At the KNEU bicycle races for children ages 2 to 12, there were 120 participants. Fifty-four gift certificates cer-tificates were given to participants in the races and four bicycles were given to the winners. In the afternoon, the gutter east of Day's Thriftway was diked and filled with water. Anxious youngsters waiting for the pond to be filled with fish, played in the water. Don Smith and Alvin Kay tagged 20 of the fish and 180 others were set loose. Children under 5 years old were let in the pond with their parents to catch the fish. Minutes later other children were allowed in the pond and it was shoulder to shoulder as the kids crawled crawl-ed on their hands and knees to find the fish. "It was amusing and exciting," Kay said. Within 15 minutes all the fish were caught and the cries of those who didn't catch anything and the cheers of those who did were heard. The Rotary sponsored barbecue, later in the evening, was reported to be a large success with more participants par-ticipants than last year. The major part of proceeds from the day's events will go to improvement of Dinosaur Gardens.
