Show The- Vernal All-Stars made the Los Angles Rams basketball team see stars as they musacred the Rams, 110 to 88 at Uintah I litfh School, Wednesday in a contest con-test sponsored by the Uintah High School Athletic Department. A basketball lesson was dished out in the game by the Vernal Ver-nal All Stars to the Los Angeles Rams crew, which contained only one member of a roster which was given to Uintah High School. The players are members of the Rams Football team and they compete in basketball games in the off season. Rick Gardner and Burke Buckalew scored for the Vernal All-Stars to give their team an early 4-0 lead. The Rams' Kirk Collins and Leroy Irvin scored to take a 6 to 4 lead. The Rams' Kirk Collins Col-lins and Leroy Irvin scored to take a 6 to 4 advantage, but field goals by Gardner, Gard-ner, Vic Anderson, Kim Oliverson and Buckalew presented a 14-10 lead to the Vernal team. The Rams' Rick Parma fired in a field goal attempt to cut the Vernal team's lead to two points at 14-12, but Barry Gardner returned a four point lead to the Vernal cagers with a field goal. A field goal by the Rams cut Vernal's lead to three points at 24-21, but Brent Eaton and Barry Gardner scored to deliver a 28 to 23 lead to the Vernal basketballers. The Rams' Kirk Collins hit a shot at the buzzer to make the score after one quarter of action, Vernal All-Stars, All-Stars, 28 and Los Angeles Rams, 25. The Rams got their offensive game into in-to gear as Collins rammed the ball through the hoop, twice, to slice the Vernal Ver-nal All-Star team's lead to one point at 32-31. Kim Oliverson came to the rescue as he fired in a two-pointer for a 34-31 lead. Two bombs by Buckalew increased increas-ed Vernal's lead to five points 38 to 33. However, a field goal by John Misko and a three-point play by Collins tied up the game at 38-38. Only four points were scored by the Rams in the rest of the second quarter and the Vernal All-Stars shined with 12 points for a 50 to 42 lead after two quarters of action. Rick Gardner popped in two field goals for a 42-38 Vernal advantage. Collins of the Rams scored a field goal to reduce the Vernal lead to two points, but the Vernal All-Stars lit up the basketball basket-ball sky with eight points in a row on six points by Anderson and a field goal by Toby Gilroy for a 50-40 lead'. Collins put in two free throws to bring the Rams within eight points of the Vernal lead. The Vernal team jumped out to a 12 point lead early in the third quarter on field goals by Barry Gardner and Mike Clauson. Clauson stole the ball from the Rams'and connected on a bomb, which would be a 3-pointer in the National Basketball Association. Clausen flipped in another bomb for a 56-44 advantage. Field goals by Larry Williams and Collins Col-lins sliced Vernal's lead to eight points at 56-48, Vernal went on a 15-2 scoring spurt for a 21 point lead of 7 1 to 50. A two-pointer two-pointer by Barry Gardner gave Vernal a ten-point lead of 58-48 and a field goal by Clauson presented a 15-point lead of 65-50 to the Vernal team. Scott Duncan and Barry Gardner scored to give Vernal Ver-nal a 69-50 lead and another Vernal field goal increased the lead to 21 points. Vernal All-Star Barry Gardner became a Los Angeles Ram when he put the ball through the Ram hoop. However, Gardner redeemed himself when he fired a pass to Marvin Holdaway, who scored to return a 21 point lead to the Vernal cagers.
