Former resident celebrates 85th birthday with family Melvina Richens, a former Vernal resident, was the guest of honor at a dinner din-ner held by her family to celebrate her 85th birthday. The dinner was held Jan. 23 in a recreation room in Roy, Utah with over 100 descendents, .children and grandchildren, grand-children, attending. Approximately two-thirds two-thirds of her family attended. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine (Ann) Allen traveled from Baker, Ore. for the event. Mrs. Allen and a grandson, Scott Ebling, Florida, are the only two living outside of the state of Utah. Mrs. Richens was born Jan. 25, 1898 in Heber City. She married Vern Richens in 1915 and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Richens died in Vernal in 1946 in a trench cave-in. Mrs. Richens has been active in the LDS Church where she served as a Sunday Sun-day School teacher and a Relief Society visiting teacher, a position she still holds and has held for 65 years. Of her 15 children, she has six sons and six daughters living. Mrs.' Richens has 47 grandchildren, 78 great grandchildren and 20 great great grandchildren. |
