Show Fire causes $20,000 damage to local auto dealership A fire at Dave Jolley Chevrolet Saturday Satur-day night caused $20,000 damage and left Ryan Staley, 16, of Vernal who was seriously burned. Staley was with three other men who were cleaning the floor of the shop area with gasoline to prepare it for painting when the fumes accumulated too heavily and were ignited by the pilot light of a furnace, fur-nace, according to a police report. Staley received second and third degree burns over 40 percent of his body. He received immediate attention at the Ashley Valley Medical Center and was transferred to the University of Utah Burn Center Sunday morning. According to officials at the Burn Center, Staley was released Tuesday, although he will be making daily visits to the burn center for treatment. The Vernal City Fire Department responded immediately to the alarm at Dave Jolley Chevrolet, and the blaze was under control in a short time. Even so, there was $15,000 damage to the building and $5000 damage to the contents of the building, but the car dealer is still open for business. All cars in the showroom were able to be moved out and no damage occurred to them. |
