Show By Jack Wallis ,0mV I Recognizing excellence in youth During the last few weeks in the school year we think it is fitting to recognize the accomplishments and excellence of our students attending junior and senior high schools. Through public recognition we would hope that our young people will be given the encouragement to push themselves forward in their pursuit of learning and developing their talents. Last Saturday the Vernal Elks Lodge recognized outstanding students from Vernal Junior High School and Uintah High School. During Dur-ing the year the Elks select students of the month from students at both schools. Saturday a banquet was given for all the students of the month and their parents. Also, two $400 scholarships were awarded to two outstanding students. They received $50 state awards. Other students were given $50 savings bonds, plaques and sweaters for their outstanding scholastic achievements throughout the year. The Elks Club also henored the outstanding leader of youth for the year and two outstanding school employees. We would like to congratulate the Elks Club for their efforts in recognizing recogniz-ing dedication, service and outstanding outstan-ding performance among our young people and their leaders. During the next week or so we expect ex-pect many other students will receive honors in the form of scholarships, awards, letters and trophies. Some will climax their public education with graduation certificates. These are uncertain times for our young scholars. But we are sure this uncertainty can become security if one is well prepared in his field of study. We would encourage our young scholars to continue their quest for' learning and develop their talents and' skills so they can be successful in obtaining ob-taining the goals they have set out to reach. We encourage programs such as the Elks' student recognition project. We hope the many recognition programs and ceremonies during the end of the school year will serve as a springboard to further excellence and encourage our young students to keep working so they can have the security that only a well-rounded education can provide. In a world that is geared to high technology and rapid change, they will have to be flexible and have the courage to meet the challenges of the future. We wish our youth well and hope they can all find a field of endeavor that can give them the security and enjoyment en-joyment they deserve. |
