Show Utah Crop-Weather Crop-Weather Summary In spite of a fairly good week for field work, Utah farmers and ranchers continued to suffer losses from the spring runoff, according to the Utah Crop and Livestock Reporting Service. Lakes continued to rise, and several streams overflowed. Damage has occurred oc-curred to several irrigation systems around the state. Crops will suffer if irrigation water isn't available soon. B all seeded grains have made good progress in the cool, wet spring weather. Winter wheat was 36 percent headed and rated in good condition. Much of the fall seeded barley was also headed, but spring planting ranged rang-ed from a foot high to just emerged. Corn planting reached 83 percent-well percent-well behind normal. Most of the crop was planted late this year, and much is just coming up. Stands were only fair in some areas because of wet field conditions and cool soil temperatures. Most of the spring potatoes and vegetables have been planted but, as " with other crops, growth has been slow. Reporters rated apricots, sweet cherries, and peaches as good; although sweet cherry pollination was spotty. All indications point to a good fruit crop overall. |
