This women's social, service and toral organization has grown from ' (chapter of seven women in Abilene, ' insas, to a sorority of 250,000 mem-"Jjs mem-"Jjs active in 12.500 chapters in ' -' untries throughout the world. ' " The Founder's Day celebration in imal will be April 30 at the St. James i itholic Church basement. Four ? apters will be observing the an-:- Wsary: Beta Nu, Betz Xi, Xi Alpha . - and Preceptor Pi. Juanita Oden, president of City unci, will be serving as toast-r toast-r istress for the evening. Terie Morris 01 present a special message from the temational Executive council of Beta 'gma Phi. Awards will be presented to local .'embers and members will be .cognized for their work in the sorority and community for the past year. Beta Sigma Phi is the largest Greek letter sorority in the world and was started in the midst of the depression by Walter V. Ross, to provide an outlet for women who could not attend college or who were obliged to remain in the home. Beta Sigma Phi has two goals: to extend the hand of friendship to community com-munity women and to enjoy to the fullest the opportunities for personal grow th offered every member. Each year . a combined chapter Sweetheart Ball is planned by Beta Sigma Phi. In Vernal the ball was held at the Dinaland Country Club on Feb. 20. A sweetheart from each chapter is chosen and her resume is sent to International In-ternational offices in Kansas City, Missouri, This year, Angie Mother-shead Mother-shead of Beta Nu was chosen as a member of the 1982 Royal Court of Beta Sigma Phi. |
