The celebration is sponsored by the Sunrise Lions Club, with activities finishing up at the new city park at the corner of 600 West 100 South. The fireworks display, sponsored by the Elks club, begins at dark the night of the 4th at the city park on 500 North 800 West behind Uintah High School. Activities on the 5th begin with a flag raising and cpmmeration ceremony at the tabernacle building, 500 West 200 weekend. Grua's family of six are Julie, Melissa, David, Emily and his wife, Marilyn South starting at 8 a.m. Light refreshments sponsored by the Uintah Arts Council follow at 9:30. At 10 a.m., a race for moto-cross style bicycles will be held on a course west of Vernal Junior High School, 721 West 100 South. Registration for the race is at 9 a.m. Also at 10 a.m., vehicles of all types will go on display in front of the Uintah School District offices, 650 West 200 South. Chairwoman Shelby Clark said there will be over 40 entries, including new cars from dealerships, old cars and oil field equipment. A children's parade, sponsored by the PTA, starts at 11 a.m. at the school district bus garage, 200 South 100 West. The route will take kids up 100 West, left on 100 South to 600 West, left onto 600 West and then right onto 200 South, ending en-ding in front of the school district offices. Dedication ceremonies are scheduled at noon for the new park, to be called Independence In-dependence Park. There, booths and refreshment stands will be set up. Onlookers On-lookers will have a chance to participate par-ticipate in drawings and games for the remainder of the afternoon. |
