Show Vernal tfeom loses tfo Roosevelfl, 5-4 The Roosevelt Bronco League A team jumped out to a 4-0 lead, and then withstood a Vernal rally for a 5-4 win over the Vernal Red team in the first championship game in an all-star tournament tour-nament in Roosevelt, Saturday. Roosevent jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Brad Jenkins was walked and Tommy Olsen and Gary Trowbridge singled and crossed home plate. Vernal had three base runners in the bottom of the first inning, but failed to score. A 4-0 lead was nabbed by Roosevelt in the top of the second inning. Brad Jenkins singled and moved to second base on a balk. Gary Trowbridge gained gain-ed a base hit on a high throw to first base and Jenkins scored Roosevelt's fourth run. Vernal scored three runs in the bottom bot-tom of the second inning, but they should have scored more counters. Dustin Henline was walked and Brian Oscarson singled, Durk Hall was walked. walk-ed. Henline was tagged out at third base. Chris Labrum gained a fielder's choice and John Mead scored Oscarson on a single. Larry Murray singled, but Labrum stayed at second base instead of motoring to third base. Mead moved to second base, but was tagged out. Hall scored and cut Roosevelt's lead to two runs at 4-2. Ronnie Nielsen ripped out a double and Labrum scored to narrow the Roosevelt advantage to one counter. Murray was tagged out at third base for the final out. The Roosevelt crew grabbed a lead of 5-3 with one counter in the top of the fourth inning. Olsen, Gary and Guy Trowbridge singled with two outs and Olsen scored on Guy's single to give Roosevelt a 5-3 advantage. Roosevelt gained a double steal, but the next batter bat-ter grounded out.
