Show Hormone linked to obesity rchers at a San :,iIlclsco hospital a hormone abnor-'n abnor-'n the brain might some kinds of by keeping people -' But, they addi overweight people shouldn't put aside their diets, yet. New evidence indicates a hormone known as Cholecystokinin, or CCK, may play a role in natural regulation of food intake. Experiments in humans and lab animals have shown CCK to supress the desire to eat, said Dr. D. Godfine of Mount Zion Hospital. When CCK is not secreted, the brain cells compensate by increasing increas-ing the number of structures struc-tures regulating cell function-called receptors-resulting receptors-resulting in hunger, the doctor said. In several types of obese mice tested, the amount of receptors remained re-mained high after feeding, indicating the hormone was absent or not being secreated, the researchers found. |
