Show Bad traveler's checks issued ROOSEVELT-More fraudulently-issued fraudulently-issued traveler's checks amounting to $200 have surfaced here after a group totaling $100 was discovered two weeks ago, according to police. The checks, which were either lost or stolen from a woman traveler from Vail, Colo., are undergoing handwriting analysis at the state crime lab, said Detective Jeff Stagg. The woman, Kathy Strandie, reported $420 of checks missing, meaning mean-ing that an additional $120 of checks is still missing, said Detective Stagg. Local banks refused payment of the checks, which were accepted as payment pay-ment at three gas stations. Each check was countersigned incorrectly, said Detective Stagg. The Uintah County Sheriff's office started the investigation, and received a description of a male suspect about 5 ft. 8 inches, 155 pounds with short, sandy-colored hair. |
