Show Scouts attend fall camporee ..VERNAL SPECIAL Scout troops from the Uintah District of Scouting attended a Fall Camporee, an overnight over-night campout in Dry Fork Canyon on the National Forest, last weekend. The Camporee was under the supervision of Jim Lee, Assistant Chairman for Boy Scout Age, Uintah District of Boy Scouts. Troops attending the Camporee included in-cluded Troop No. 237, Scout Leader, Brady Green, under the sponsorship of the Kiwanis Club; Troop 780, Roy Carries; 231, J. Gerald Stewart and Troop 229, Jim Hacking, Scoutmaster, all from the Maeser LDS Stake; Troop No. 232, Steve Wells, Scoutmaster; 776, Greg Nyman, Scoutmaster; from Ashley LDS Stake and Troop 236, Jim Hendrikson, Scoutmaster; and 228, John Morton, Scoutmaster from the Vernal LDS Stake. Cooking contests were held, each troop preparing a meal and serving to the other troops; skills in pioneering, building structures of wood, and fashioning rope items were among the contest activities. Nature signs were studied and observed. Some of the awards included: First Place-camping ability, First Place Troop 780; second place Troop 229 and third place Troop 776. A Leadership Training Course will be sponsored by the Uintah District of Boy Scouts next Thursday, Friday and Saturday to develop leadership skills for Patrol Leaders, Senior Patrol lyeadurs. This is under the superivison of Jim Lee, Assistant Chairman for Boy Scout Age. The course will be held on Ashley Creek. Two or three boys from each scout troop will be in attendance. |
