Stella Richards honored I as 'Golden Age Queen' Stella Richards, 90, was selected last week as the Golden Age Queen for November. Miss Richards has taught school in the Uintah Basin for 40 years having taught in Naples and Maeser Elementaries. She came to Vernal in : the year 1894 when her father met some people going to Salt Lake City from . Vernal who convinced him that Vernal : was a good place to live. She was educated at Uintah Academy, LDS College and the University of Utah. According to Miss Richards, the highlight of her life was the Oregon Trail Pageant which she participated with while a missionary, for the LDS church. She has served five missionsT" one long-term, for the church. Miss Richards organized a handcart scene in the pageant which according to newspapers, highlighted the pageant, Miss Richards said. . - "The twenty handcarts and .one hundred, twenty-eight handcart pioneers were given a prominent place both in the pageant and the parade," Miss Richards said. Miss Richards has participated and organized several pageants including the UBIC. Now that Miss Richards is retired j from teaching and pageants, she spends a lot of time doing genealogy. She has done geneaology for over 32,000 names. Each "month local businesses will sponsor a Golden Age Queen selected from nominations made at the Hair Affair beauty salon. Miss Richards received a corsage from the Petal Shop and a free permanent per-manent from the Hair Affair. |
