M y i TED DISKO wood carvings are displayed at library May 2 toMay to toMay May 31 31 Wood sculptures are Ted Disko creations Wood sculptures by Ted Disko among which are Fighting Elk an old prospector and his mule complete with pack lifelike in detail and coloring will be displayed in the Uintah County Library beginning May 2 through May 31 The exhibition represents apart a apart apart part of the artists artist's collection of his earlier sculptures Ted has since turned his efforts to clay clay- or plasticine in an effort to achieve even greater detail in his figures Plasticine explains Ted is a non-hardening non material that has been developed for sculpture that is flexible easy to work with Telling about how he started brought a smile I was teaching my son the Boy BoyScout BoyScout BoyScout Scout art of whittling I was fascinated and just whittled for awhile Then I met some woodcarvers at the National Woodcarvers Museum in Colorado Springs Col I l was hooked and now Id I'd rather sculpt than paint with brush and canvas Teds Ted's original carvings were of cedar then he tried basswood since it docs does not have havea a grain it was easier to work with Wood is a readily available material says Mr Disko and therefore is a natural medium for the beginning sculptor The greatest disadvantage disadvantage vantage to wood is the time required to create a finished piece U Unlike Unlike ke clay which can be removed and replaced to achieve the desired form wood does not offer this flexibility Mr Disko has several wood sculptures on permanent display at the Museum in m Colorado Springs In addition to his sculpture he is a painter and scratch board artist |
