Show I Preparedness is theme of Vernal Stake conference Vernal Utah Stake Quarterly Conference was held on oil April 30 and nod May 1 t at nt the Stake Tabernacle President conducted the meeting on Saturday evening and Sunday morning Elder William 11 II Bennett member of the First Quorum of Seventy was the visiting authority Personal and family preparedness was the theme of the Saturday evening speakers who were Harvey Madsen Gary Cary Taylor Brenda Robbins and Brother Bennett The theme of the Sunday conference was also preparedness The prelude and postlude was played by Ruth Walker The youth choir sang a prelude number The opening song was It May Not Be lie on the Mountain Top and Doyle Landon London of the Stake High Council gave the invocation The business of the conference was presented by J J. J Harvey Madsen ladsen of the Stake Presidency Released from stake positions were the following Betty Belly Frank and Katie Johnson Susan Dart Elfreda Bryson and Jennie Hullinger The following were made elders Clay Stewart Michael Ray Lane Douglas Kirk and J J. J Herman Bailey Don and Burnus Burns were made High Priests Arlene May lay was sustained as Counselor Counselor Counselor Coun Coun- in the Stake Primary Presidency and Robert Vincent was sustained to the Stake Sunday School Th The youth choir sang Shall the Youth of Zion I Falter led by President and accompanied by by Mary Iary Till THE FIRST speaker of the conference was President Glade H 11 H. and he talked on preparedness He stated staled that tha t for many years the membership membership membership mem mem- of the church had been advised to be prepared for any situation which might arise lie He said there are ate many such emergencies confronting the people at this time lime such as drought floods earthquakes etc et etc and that many people had asked him What lope Hope is there for the young people of today He lIe advised the young people to keep the commandments of the Lord Every cloud has a silver sliver lining and success and happiness happiness happiness hap hap- is up to the Individual who is willing to pay the price HE HP also advised the young people to rear families and not notto notto notto to let finances and the material things of life take precedence over the more important things In fact the Lord has promised that If ye yc seek the Kingdom of God first all else will be added unto you He fie expressed gratitude for the spiritual growth of the stake The wife of the Stake President Elizabeth was the next speaker She spoke on the realities that face the mothers of the world She said that every home can be made a heaven if we do things the Lords Lord's way She stressed family togetherness in prayer and reading the scriptures Elder Gawain Snow who has recently returned from the Argentine mission was the next speaker II Ha stressed the importance importance importance im im- of a good example lie He stated slated that we should put first things first and diligently keep the commandments of the Lord President Irvin Haws was the next speaker lie He urged everyone to help build t the e kingdom be united in our efforts efforts efforts ef ef- ef- ef forts and uphold the authorities in the various offices of the church lie He stated that the Lord Lordis is delighted to bless us if we honor him and keep his Com Com- He lie gave as an example some of of the early leaders of the church who became disgruntled and murmured against the Prophet They found themselves out of the church and very unhappy At this point the choir and congregation joined In singing There is Beauty All Around Elder Jan Goodrich who has received his call to the Columbus Ohio mission gave a short talk of preparing for a mission lie He said that after we have been warned we have a responsibility to warn our neighbors and that we must give the world what the Lord wants them to receive Ellen Larsen spoke on family home evening She suggested that families that work and play together learn to love each other She said a loving family Is the most wonderful thing a ayoung ayoung ayoung young person can enjoy The family is together for such a short time that this time is very precious Elder William Bennett visiting church authority was the concluding speaker His message massage was that the great purpose of this life is to prove ourselves face the tests and not be found wanting He lie stated st. th that t we go through this life but once so we should magnify our callings and make our lives as beautiful as we can Elder Bennett said that a sifting is going on so we must set goals lead our children in righteousness and when the day of accounting comes we must measure up He lie said the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only answer We should all follow the Boy Scout motto and always be prepared for anything that comes He lie suggested that we let the gospel flourish in our lives and be examples to others Elder Bennett also paid tribute to the Stake Slake leaders of this area The closing song was Choose the Right Hight The benediction was offered by Alvin Bowden High Councilman |
