Show Our area received a lot of free national advertising during the past two weeks We suppose you have all heard of the world record German Brown caught InFlaming InFlaming in inFlaming Flaming Gorge last Friday It is surprising the excitement one big fish can cause Robert Bringhurst was an unknown California fisherman prior to Friday morning now he is world It is hard to believe what just one fish can do to ones one's fame We also expect more fishermen will want to come to Flaming Gorge after sizing up Bringhurst's catch as pictured in newspapers and magazines all over the country Another national recognition for our area was not quite so flattering A picture of the Vernal dog pound showed up in inthe inthe inthe the March 1 issue of the National Enquirer which claims the largest circulation of any paper in America with these headlines Enquirer probe reveals that while nation shivers in one of the coldest winters in history thousands of dogs are freezing to death in Americas America's animal shelters Under the picture showing the Vernal dog pound incidentally the dogs in it appear to be happy was this caption Deadly pound Eleven dogs die in one chilling night last February at at this snow- snow surrounded shelter sheller at the Vernal City and Uintah County Pound which is miles from Salt Sail Lake City The Enquirer article cites examples of dog sufferings throughout the country with the severe winter The last two paragraphs quote Lonnie Johnson executive director of the Humane Society of Utah telling of the 11 dogs dying in inthe inthe inthe the local pounds saying the whole thing was pathetic The article referred to the Vernal Verna incident as happening last February when it actually took place in February of 1976 over a year ago Since that cold night in February 1976 the Utah Humane Society has persisted in an advertising campaign that has given Vernal national coverage that would cost thousands of dollars to do any other othet way Those eleven cleven freezing dogs just dont don't seem to pass away the pictures and stories just keep popping up It appears that our Dinosaurs are taking third place in the national media to our dog shelter sheller and record brown trout As the manager of one of Vernal's Main Street businesses opened up Monday morning he found a cardboard box in front of his door containing several well used CB CD radios and other small radio equipment left at athis athis athis his store for repair over two years ago On top of the box was wasa a typewritten letter stating that these items were stolen from the store about two years ago in ina ina ina a burglary on the establish establish- ment The letter explained how the theft had been made The writer then apologized for not returning ning ring all the stolen items but explained that some of the things he had taken had been stolen from him and this was all he had left The letter said the person responsible for the burglary was not making amends for the act but was returning what he had while he still had some of the stolen merchandise left The returned radios radio's serial serla numbers had been removed and were reported to be worthless but the confession letter was very interesting We are sure there is a moral to this story stay but it would appear appear appear ap ap- ap- ap pear to be that you had better get r rid d of stolen merchandise before someone steals it from you This probably proves that there is no io honor among thieves |
