Show BYU U recreation survey Does the city of Roosevelt need a new swimming pool What are your feelings concerning they the city's golf course Should girls be allowed to participate te in what have traditionally been boys programs These and many other pertinent questions will be answered soon as the result of a recreation survey that will willbe willbe willbe be conducted in the area Roosevelt City is promoting the survey under the direction of their Recreation Director Steve Bailey Utah State Slate University's Cooperative Extension Services under the direction of Dr Courtney Brewer is funding the survey through its Rural Development Program Conducted by a special class of graduate students from Brigham Young University on Thursday Friday and Saturday January 26 through 28 questionnaires will be distributed These will include the Duchesne and Uintah county areas of Ioka loka and Hancock Cove on the west with Ft Duchesne Randlett Tridell Lapoint Whiterocks and Ballard on the east The survey will be distributed door to door on a completely random basis CITY OFFICIALS L. feel that the survey will accomplish several R objectives objectives ob ob- ob 1 It will provide a det detailed list of existing facilities 2 It will compare Roosevelt's recreation facilities with national standards for a community the same size 3 It will air the views and opinions of the populace as to present and future program and facility needs 4 It will serve as a complete recreation master plan for future development of or projected needs in the areas of facilities programs and personnel 5 It will serve as a tool that can be used to acquire federal funds and donations for the construction of needed recreation facilities Dr Benjamin deHoyos a professor Inthe in inthe inthe the Department of Recreation at BYU made an initial visit to Roosevelt in November to help determine the scope and direction tion of the study When the students accompanied by Dr deHoyos come to Roosevelt they will wUl be housed in private homes including including including in in- those of Mayor Shields and council member Ellen Rawlings Frontier Grill and the Cow Palace are donating some of their meals during their stay TilE THE DATA TA colle collected ted by the students will be fed into a computer at BYU to analyze and categorize the information in a manner that will best fulfill fulfil the surveys survey's objectives In the final fina phase I the class will arrange the th the information step by in an orderly well defined book that will willbe be printed painted and hardbound hardbound hard bard bound for the best utilization by local and county government for recreation development 1 The cost of the survey will be between and 1000 The major expenses lie in the publication of the book Enough will be printed to provide provid needed copies to concerned agencies The remainder of the expenses include BYU computer time and travel expenses No salaries s sor or personal costs will come from the proposed funds The students are conducting the survey on their own time while taking time from work and school as a requirement of the class If IC one of the students knocks on your door and asks you to fill out one of the questionnaires do so willingly Spend st d few minutes of your time to answer the questions The answers will not only help the city and towns they will help you in the form of better recreation facilities and programs |
