Show Doyle Y London Landon named Employee of school district Dedicated not only to the school but butto butto butto to his community is the way Arvin Nelson sums up the naming of Doyle Y Landon as Employee of the Uintah School District The announcement was made t the Uintah Educational Association t the employees winter mid-winter meeting v here a table had been prepared with pi pictures ures and data honoring Mr Landon j Mr Landon began teaching at Uintah High School 35 years ago where h was an instructor in civics business i rith arith arithmetic world history and vocational agriculture The Vo Vo-Ag Vo Ag program has now become a time full-time schedule commented commented commented com com- Mr Landon VOCATIONAL agriculture is a diversified subject encompassing welding metals woodwork and small engine repair Mr Landon also instructs instructs instructs in in- classes in Agricultural Science lie He has been advisor to the Future Farmers of America Uintah Chapter for all of his years at Uintah and through his association with these young men has also been advisor to the Young Farmers Chapter of Uintah County for 30 years Added to this busy curriculum are adult classes in ag mechanics landscaping land g and home improvement A member of off the Uintah Educational Association and also of the Utah Vocational Agricultural Teachers Mr Landon served as president for two years yeal and also secretary for two years he was president of the Uintah Credit Union two years and at present Is a member of the Advisory Board at Uintah High School As a member of the Church he has been a Stake High Councilman for 19 years yeal and served a year two-year Indian mission at the Whiterocks Branch Born in Firth Idaho this committed teacher came to Vernal in May of 1941 from Logan as an assistant supervisor I was working with Clair Hopkins and Freda Davis recalls Mr Mr- Landon FIIEDA REMEMBERS IE that Doyle Poyle could readily empathize with people and through understanding their problems was able to help them II 9 n 4 t DOYLE Y LANDON leader teacher in his community During World War II Mr Landon W went vent to California where he helped supervise displaced Japanese who were kept under surveillance until the close of the conflict His wife is the former Glenda Cole of Paris Idaho whom he married Aug 21 1940 in the Logan Temple Sons and daughters are Glen Laraine Dean Ross and Joyce Hobbies Bobbies are gardening-both gardening flowers and vegetables and he has served as a member of the Uintah County Fair board and on the livestock committee for all of those 35 years smiled Doyle Poyle Now there are fewer farms and more time part-time farmers Doyle wondered how many people remembered the old round barn at the fairgrounds and added that young peoples people's involvement and the number of exhibitors had more than doubled since then I think trunk that having a project-an project animal crop or whatever whatever-is one ore of the best ways of teaching young people responsibility and gives them a chance to earn a little money It B has certainly improved the quality of livestock and farming practices here in the Basin And dedicated teachers like Doyle Poyle Landon have Improved the quality of a great many young people whose liv lives s she he has helped to o mold |
