Show fJ r. r K x K K y PUBLIC FORUM LETTERS FETTERS TO TC THE EDITOR What is your opinion The Express welcomes letters from its readers concerning any subject pertinent to the Uintah Basin While there are no restrictions asto contents or V reasonable length letters must be submitted exclusively to I the Express and bear tear the writers writer's full name signa signature lure and address Names must be printed on political letters but may be withheld for good reasons if requested on others All 11 letters are subject to condensation Hospital emergency treatment Dear Editor Recently I was involved in the care of ofa ofa ofa a young woman who received a gunshot wound to the chest I was so impressed by how well the hospital personnel rescue squad and various individuals in inthe inthe inthe the community responded to the situation that I felt this should be called to the attention of the people of Uintah County As we are all aware the hospital has been subject to its share of criticism and not without just cause But the mentioned above-mentioned case is a perfect example that sophisticated care can be given here However in order to do so it requires your support both on a financial level as well as in terms of community involvement Let me illustrate these points using this case This patient essentially was bleeding to death at a rapid rate I am convinced that a delay of five to ten minutes would have resulted in her death I am sure this would have been the case without the availability of Vernal's rescue squad an organization that is totally voluntary and supported in great part by your donations Once the patient arrived at the hospital her management ran smoothly because there happened to be adequate staffing This is not always the case for a number of reasons which I 1 will not go into now Her immediate needs included replacing blood and alot of it Without the community responding to the appeals appeals appeals ap ap- ap- ap peals made by the hospital through regular donors and by radio announcements announcements an an- this patient definitely would have died By the time she was air evacuated she was receiving her TWENTIETH unit of blood eleven of which were freshly donated Each of you who gave or were willing to give should feel very satisfied and fulfilled Your efforts made the difference between life and death I doubt a large Salt Lake City h hospital pital could do better than this I hope ope those of you who read this letter will take a little pride in your hospital and realize the potential that is here To make it a bet better ter place it needs your support your active interest and more of a financial commitment from your county government Only you as a citizen of this county can change conditions which do not meet your standards Sincerely I II R.
