Show Health care providers give presentation at conference Members of the Vernal Family Health Center staff and University of Utah based liason personnel presented a workshop on rural primary healthcare healthcare health healthcare care interdisciplinary team building and service delivery this past week in New Orleans at the Council on Social Work Education Annual Meeting The Vernal based operation is unique in the providing of a comprehensive approach to health care in a rural area Lee Balker MD M.D. Marlee Mar lee Balka Dick Pick Welker director and Robert Hobert Vincent social worker each gave presentations to other health care professionals attending the th ce Lee Balka discussed the role of oC the physician in the health care team and how he utilizes other members of the health care team Marlee Marice Balka the role of the non p non non provider and which other professional disciplines are represented on the staff Richard Welker presented material related to the complexities involved in administering such a program including including in in- eluding such areas area as public relations and ana cost COit effectiveness Robert Vincent gave if information pertaining to the role of the psycho social psycho member of the team traditional non-traditional health care and case load characteristics The educational functions of the program were also enumerated by the providers Attending ing from the University of Utah was Dr Ed Brown Drown Dean School of Social Work who was chairman of the workshop Dean Drown Brown explained the tha Health Sciences Council at the University as a power base and sanction sanction sanc sanc- tion for the program in Vernal Ken Griffiths of the University gave information in formation about the Interdisciplinary Primary Care Committee which functions functions tons as a policy-making policy coordinating body Fred Janzen looked at cost effectiveness effectiveness ef ef- ef f as well as other indices related to the evaluation of the program The conference was well attended and all the providers came back feeling that ti the e Vernal Family U Health Center represented a unique and very meaningful contribution to health care and could be used as a pattern for other programs throughout the nation |
