Show Utah State Press Asso 1327 n 0 Box BOK Natural Gas Co pug 0 Salt l Lake City Utah 1 r rf f s 1 t l' l Jr t p r kW r VERNAL DETECTIVE Bob Downard left escorts murder suspect Walter Preston Boggess Jr to his arraignment before City Judge Lloyd Eaton in the Uintah County Courthouse last Monday Eaton formally read the charge of Second Degree Murder to Boggess and set bail at Man arraigned ire in o ies ie's slaying Arraignment proceedings were conducted Monday at the Uintah County Courthouse for Walter Preston Boggess Jr 20 arrested in connection with the shooting death of his nineteen nineteen- year-old year wife Tammy Lou Cobb Boggess both residing in Vernal Boggess arraigned before City Judge Lloyd Eaton was ordered held in lieu of bail set by Eaton He was formally charged with committing 2nd degree murder a 1st degree felony which carries a maximum sentence of 5 years to life or and-or a fine if found guilty Thursday March 2 Vernal Police Chuck Hill and Officers Mel Curtis Reid Merrill and Joe Boren responded to a call for help placed by Walter Boggess at his residence of South West in Vernal at three o'clock in the afternoon Prior to the call for the pol police e Boggess called the ambulance to obtain ai aid for his wounded wife UPON THEIR arrival at the scene and discovering the shooting incident the officers called Vernal Police Chief Jonathon B B. B Jones and Det Detectives Bob Downard and Darrell Lance for further assistance The subsequent investigation revealed the victim had sustained a gunshot wound from a 44 magnum handgun in the upper right portion of the chest area and was transported to the Uintah County Hospital for treat treat- ment She was transported several hours later to the Hospital in Salt Lake City for emergency surgery She remained in the Intensive Care Unit until she died March 5 at pm p.m. as a result of the gunshot wound It was reported that prior to her death she wr wrote te a statement regarding the shooting to Jones Downard and Lance oJ Continued on Page 16 idl Arraignment Continued from Pa Page e 1 TilE THE INVESTIGATION into the causes of the incident resulted in the arrest of Walter Boggess Thursday evening He Ile was booked into the Uintah County jail and held in lieu of until his arraignment where he was charged and ordered held in lieu of bail Boggess his wife and their son whose first birthday was on the day of the shooting moved to Vernal about six weeks ago from Longmont Colorado to gain employment with Thompson Drilling The preliminary hearing before Judge Eaton will be scheduled at a later date following the appointment of counsel for Boggess Further details related to the shooting death of Mrs Boggess are being withheld by police officials pending the outcome of the trial r a A TAMMY LOU COBB Boggess 19 Vernal died Sunday evening evening even ing three days after she was shot with a 44 magnum handgun handgun handgun han han- in the chest |
