Show Penney Medallion Designed By Famous Sculptor ;C , .Is) . h .,. fi" - A limf4r To celebrate its Golden Jubilee, J. C. Penney Company commissioned com-missioned Julio Kilenyl, famous sculptor, to design a medallion symbolizing sym-bolizing the department store chain's place in the American scene. Above, Mr. Kilenyi puts the finishing touches on his design, which is distinguished by its simplicity and warmth. One side of the medallion med-allion (left) show the Penney Company, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary, represented by a 50-year old oak tree. Beneath the sturdy oak is the inscription: "Growing with the Nation". On the medallion's reverse side (right) are depicted three generations of Americans who have been and are being served by J. C. Penney Company. Mr. Kilenyi, many of whose works are on permanent exhibition ex-hibition in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and other museums, considers the Penney medallion one of his finest examples of this form of creative art. |
