Show WOMAN'S WORLD Spring Fashions Show Fresh, Graceful Feminine Appearance By Ertta Haley GRACEFUL, feminine fashions are still here, if we are to believe be-lieve advance fashion reports. So are handsome, beautiful fabrics which can do so much for fashion as well as all the lovely touches that make fashions so beguiling, ribbons, embroideries and jeweling. Since, however, these are fashions fash-ions for Spring, they also have the fresh, crisp touches that spell the season. You'll be seeing an emphasis em-phasis on the lighter shades of blue, an important color, as well as pastels pas-tels like pink, and also crisp white accents of organdie and embroidery. New clothing is delightful and pretty. . There is still some Spanish influence evident In some of the collections, but there is much of the French and English Influences both in line and decor. Waistlines are, for the mott part, small, delicate and almost fragile. This is achieved in one or several ways, with a boned corset type bodice, fullness in skirts and sleeves which tends to minimize the waistline waist-line simply by distributing material elsewhere in contrast to the waist, as well as small jackets which leave the waistline uncluttered. Dress and suit lengths have not changed much since fall, although ' some of these items look just a trifle longer. There L not quite as much full ness in evidence as there was last season, mainly because fabrics are manipulated bit more cleverly with pleating and folding and smart seam work. Materials softer than crinoline are being used underneath skirts and this prevents them from billowing out as much as formerly. Fabrics are still in the news-making class, for finer than ever mate- rials are being constantly found, Inspiration for designing then comes from far-flung countries. New skirts art gracefully full ,, . Spring Suit Picture Shows Infinite Variety For the woman who buys a suit for Spring, the choice will be difficult dif-ficult to make. Should she choose some of the light, Interesting woolens, wool-ens, or should she invest In one of the enchanting silk suits? Worsted and suitings are very handsome and elegantly tailored for the woman who likes distinguished 'elegance in her clothes. However, the, silks with their myriad colors and patterns, as well as their treatments treat-ments are so fascinating, many designers de-signers feel that no one can resist them. Dress-like softness is still the style In most of the suits, whether they have a slender or full silhouette. Stitched pleating, pin pleating and pin tucking are seen in the fuller skirts, while the slim ones which are always becoming have fluid and graceful lines as well as walking ease. Blouses and jacket linings are exceedingly ex-ceedingly important in the picture, with blouses often tied to the lining of the jacket in color or fabric or both. Pastels as well as prints for both are important. You may choose small, single-breasted single-breasted jackets or double-breasted ones, whichever looks best. You'll find bolero styles still in full fashion strength, but boleroes are very brief, indeed, showing Spanish and Italian influence. Sleeves are very important, and full, bouffant type sleeves are having hav-ing their reign, especially In the silk suits. Deeply cut armholes on some suits make for comfort as well as good styling. Like many skirts and jackets, you'll find that sleeves are lined and stiffened, too. so their lines can be kept the way they were Intended in designing. i are ribbed and nubbed, especially if woolens are used, while others are airy and light. Lacy tweeds are lovely, and so are the silk and worsted and silk brocatelles. One of the biggest Spring fashions is the white coat, a greatcoat designed de-signed with great casualness. It's fleecy, collarless and a bias box-pleated box-pleated version that shapes beautifully beauti-fully with or without a belt. Those who are looking for wraps will like the short cape coat of nubby chiffon wool, boxy wrapped coats of white waffle silk, as well as the full length wrapped cape coat. Popular colorful colors include warm, ripe wheat, soft pink-mauve, butterscotch and two-toned glowing tweeds which feature chartreuse or ginger shades. Many coats which are Intended to be combined with dresses make' a point of contrast. Rustic woolens team with fragile-looking silks. Nubby, Nub-by, lightweight fleece or boldly patterned pat-terned tweeds mingle with silk shantung dresses or coat linings. Soft colorings and delicate prints are also favored. Daytime Dresses Offer Elegance The woman who feels saturated with suits can be very happy with daytime dresses for these are elegant ele-gant and nicely tailored, but still interesting enough for some of the feminine decor. The dresses look slender in outline. Chic plus beauty and masterful tailoring are evident In these dresses. dress-es. Most of the decor comes from the beauty of the fabric used, deep, sturdy, sensuously textured silks, silk surra h, silk-like cottons, fine, twined, almost silky linens and lustrous-textured silks. There are many different silhouettes sil-houettes reflected In current fashions. fash-ions. Among them is the sculptured sculp-tured look, the lyre look, the corseted, cor-seted, high-waisted look, the wine-stem wine-stem waistline which is elongated and spun thin as if by a glass blower and the elongated form-hugging torso. Necklines are still open, but seem more delicately moulded than before be-fore with good manipulation of the fabric. It's also accentuated whether round, swirled, draped or deep-throated. Deceptive Simplicity Eliminates Much Trimming As long as so many beautiful fabrics are used, you'll find an absence ab-sence of trimmings as such. No needless accessories are essential to play up the fashion and most designers recognize this. Clutter and trimmings as such give way to the use of lovely material ma-terial and perfect cutting and finish. fin-ish. The touches of trimming as such are in exquisite taste such as a velvet touch on a collar of mink brown taffeta, or tSe bosom of a violet print silk, a touch of linet faille, pique or organdie, buttoi details on collars, cardigan necklines, neck-lines, torso jackets, cuffs or pockets or ruffle on a cuff. Pockets are sometimes used, especially es-pecially on the slimmer skirts, but s even these are very much a part of the dress or suit. They follow the natural curve of the hipline. Bold balancing of colors is another an-other feature which adds a decorative decora-tive note to the fashions, even if they are black and white. Red Is seen as an accent color, as well as one of the main colors In some of the collections. You'll be seeing many stripes, too, in the new dresses. There are beautiful Roman stripes, gay tricolor tri-color flag stripes and free-hand printed stripes. While waistlines show slendemess. Colors? Navy Is always an Important Impor-tant consideration for Spring, but you might like gray, black or beige. In the more feminine suits, all sorts of interesting colors can be found.
