She was a native of Syracuse Syra-cuse in Sicily. She consecrated herself to God in her youth. Her mother did not know of her vow and wished her to marry a young pagan. At the tomb of Saint Agatha, she prayed for her mother mo-ther to be cured of a serious disease. dis-ease. The cure was obtained and when the young girl told her mother of her prayers, she realized real-ized how close Lucy was to God. She protected her daughter and stopped the marriage. The young pagan accused her of being a Christian. Paschasius, the governor, gover-nor, demanded her death. God saved her from fire and torments and great temptations. She died in prison from information received. re-ceived. She is patroness of sight and of maladies of the eyes. Make an effort to attend Mass in her honor on her feast day. |
