Show DEMISE OF BRO. OBED TAYLOR.

On Saturday, July 30th, at one o'clock, at his residence, in the 18th ward, Salt Lake city, one of the noble men of the Territory, passed away from this existence. For several days prior to Brother Taylor's death, he had been somewhat indisposed, but it was little thought his demise was so near at hand, as was the case. On Sunday afternoon, at four o'clock, his funeral services were held in the 18th Ward. The services were presided over by Bishop O. F. Whitney, and among the speakers were Elder John Nicholson, President A. M. Cannon, Bishop Taylor and Elders Watson and Patrick. President H. ?. Eldrege offered up the dedicatory prayer and all that was mortal of Brother Taylor was laid in the dust. He was born in Canada, and embraced the gospel in San Francisco. The late Apostle Parley C. Pratt administered the ordinance of baptism to him, and he always rejoiced in the work of the Lord from the day he first heard the gospel. His ability in architecture was noteworthy and among the many evidences of his skill in this respect, the Salt Lake Assembly Hall stands as a monument to his genius. Prior to his death he completed the designs and plans on the new Deseret University and the new Opera House, both of which buildings will, when completed, keep his name in fond remembrance though his body crumbles in the dust. We sympathize with the relatives and friends of the deceased, and say that the Lord who gives succor and strength to the afflicted will not forget them in the hour of distress. |
