Show THE PLUNKETT CONSTELLATION. This troupe are now playing a week's engagement in Logan Theatre. On Monday evening they played "Fate," next evening "The Slaughraun," and on Wednesday evening, "Fanchon;" last evening they played "The Two Orphans." It will thus be seen that their repertoire comprises the standard and legitimate drama, a kind of theatrical entertainment most to be commended. Of their playing we can speak in terms of high praise; Carrie Plunkett is an actress of marvelous versatility, and her playing is vivacious, natural, and seemingly so spontaneous as to captivate her audience. She is also a gifted songstress and has a voice of great power and melody. We were charmed with her "Fanchon," and believe it to have been the best impersonation of the character ever seen in Logan. Mr. Will O'Keefe is also an artist of fine ability and great versatility: he can be touchingly pathetic, or, in such a character as "Duber" in "Fanchon," irresistibly ludicrous. In fact the whole company are good in the roles they respectively assume, and the pieces they present go off with perfect, careful smoothness, and an absence of the careless hurry and "hitching" so often witnessed in the performances of traveling companies. We regret not to have seen better houses at their performances, which are of a class we can unhesitatingly recommend to our public, being chaste and elevating and portraying life as it is illustrated in the better class of legitimate drama. The conference week was an unfortunate one for their engagement here; at any other time we believe they could have played to crowded houses. Tonight the high comedy entitled "Our Boys," will be presented, and the troupe's engagement will close tomorrow, (Saturday) evening with the beautiful Irish drama entitled "St. Patrick's Eve." Both of these will prove excellent entertainments; we saw the troupe play the latter drama in Ogden last week, and can speak in warm praise of the piece and their manner of rendering it. The engagement of the troupe here has afforded our citizens a treat in the way of the legitimate drama. On leaving here they play at Dillon and thence will go to Montana. |
