Show Editor Leader: - With the hope that I may not weary your patience, I send you a few lines of local news from Hyrum: While the band of gypsies, which is now camped at Logan River Bridge, was making its invasions in Hyrum, a young girl of about fifteen years, daughter of one of our citizens, became very intimate with one of these vagabonds, and upon being corrected for some small error by her parents, she resolved to leave home and go in search of her favorite gypsy, whom she found after going on foot to Logan. After remaining in their tents overnight, she was found the next morning by her anxious father and brought home. A member of the band had made the remark, that "Hyrum was one of the softest places they had ever found;" they made good wages at telling fortunes. A ball was given last Friday evening, when a great number of young men of Wellsville attended, a few of whom we would invite to stay at home until they can subdue that spirit of rowdyism and blasphemy which accompanied them. This does not apply to all. Some Hyrum boys are included in this. During the evening Dan Walters, Esq. (Esquire) of Wellsville favored the party with several pieces of music, executed on the violin, with great credit to the performer. Mr. A. Savage and band, of Hyrum, have credit for the music. With the exception of the setting out of two or three on "a hat hunt" all passed off quietly. Respectfully, Dan Mark. |
