Show Boys and Revolvers.

On Saturday last, a boy about thirteen years of age whose parents live on the Island managed to get possession of a large revolver, and, being seized with a military spirit, he proceeded to bombard sundry cats, dogs, and chickens that were so unluckey [unlucky] as to happen in his vicinity. One shot fired by him, grazed the ear of a Sweedish [Swedish] man who happened to be in the willows near by, and was certainly a close call. As long as there shall continue to remain in existence upon the same continent, small boys and revolvers, we suppose that society will never have any guarantee of security, for the boys and revolvers have such an affinity for each other that it seems impossible for them to be kept seperate [separate]; especially is this the case if the revolver happens to be loaded at the time when the boy enters its sphere of attraction. For a boy who has aquired the habit of fooling with pistols, there is but one cure, and that is to shoot him two or three times with one. This treatment may seem somewhat severe, but it is based on the homeopathic principle of similia? similibus? curantur?-like cures like, and has many earnest advocates. |
