The Board of Trade building in Tithing office square are being rapidly pushed to completion. Jos. (Joseph) A. West, Esq. (Esquire), was in Logan yesterday morning; as was also B. P. Cummings, Jr. (Junior), Esq. (Esquire). Meat kept in the cellar during the heat of the day at the Logan Meat Market on Main Street. Mr. Edgar Angell, of Salt lake, brother of Osborne Angell, Esq.(Esquire), has been spending a few days in Logan. The election takes place on the first Monday in August. Everybody who is interested should be sure to cast a vote. Wood - of such a kind that either your mother-in-law or the hired girl can easily cut it, at the U. O. M. & B. Co's (Company's) Mills. Mr. Joselyn, Pay-Master for the U. & N. Ry. (Union & Northern Railway) went north on Wednesday night, as did Mr. Congdon, master mechanic. Mrs. Lameroux's millinery establishment, when the improvements are completed, will be one of the neatest little stores in Logan. Don't forget that this evening the Dramatic Association will present one of the finest performances ever witnessed by a Logan audience. Z. C. M. I. have taken a great step in the march toward improvement. A delivery wagon is now running regularly. Hurrah for improvement. Lundberg & Garff are enterprising. Within a week past they have received three car loads of red wood and sugar pine lumber, which they are rapidly working into shapes. Hanson & Thomas - the new firm will certainly succeed. They are the best tailors in this part of the country. Success to the new firm. More information next week. President Preston is once more able to be on the street. For some time ??? Line Unreadable ??? but now we are favored with his genial presence in public. On Tuesday the frame work for a large section of Peese,s barn was raised by D. B. Lamoreaux & Son; builders with considerable assistance. Another section is ready to be lifted from the ground and thus the good work progresses. We hear reports of a very low affair which occurred in the northern part of the city on Wednesday last. Two women engaged in an altercation, a man interfered with a blackswhip, and a general melee ensued. Such things should not be permitted. A large party consisting of Apostle Thatcher, Doctor Ormsby, their wives and numerous guests, started for a pleasure trip through Logan canyon, on Monday last. We hope that during the time of their absence from Logan, they will gain much enjoyment. Mr. J. T. Hammond will send up a large balloon, with fireworks attached, in front of his establishment on Main St. (Street), this evening at 9 o'clock. The public are invited to witness the spectacle either from that vicinity or from the upper windows of their residences. Major Street, representing the well-known firm of McNutt & Co. (Company), Ogden, was in Logan recently. The major is a genial, affable gentleman and we bespeak for him the courteous treatment and the patronage of our businessmen throughout this part of the country. Furst & Bradley rakes and other kinds of machinery can be sold as fast as received by the Board of Trade here. Mr. Turner the manager, is a popular man, the machinery is first class, and the organization is one "of the people and fore the people," therefore success ought to be the crown of such efforts. Thos. (Thomas) E. Ricks, Esq. (Esquire) was in town during a few days past. He reports railroad work is "booming," and says that the track layers are proceeding at the rate of three-fourths of a mile each day, on the average. At the present time the line has reached a point about 10 or 12 miles past Bed Rock; and as 70 men are kept constantly employed, it is expected that, with the new conveniences now at hand, this average will be increased. On Monday, Major C. H. Wingard and lady arrived in Logan from the north, and remained here two days. They are the parents of Dr. (Doctor) E. V. Wingard, who is very favorable known in our city. The major is paymaster for the middle division of the department of the Platte. Both he and Mrs. Wingard express themselves as highly delighted with our beautiful city. After the conclusion of their visit here the will proceed immediately to Fort Douglas. Notice is hereby given to the superintendents, choir leaders, and singers of the Sunday schools of the Stake, that a meeting for the purpose of preparing for the coming Jubilee, will be held until further notice on the last Saturday of each month in the Logan Tabernacle, commencing at 11 o'clock a.m. It is earnestly desired that all who have an interest in this matter will be present. |
