Show WESTERN WHISPERS <br><br> THE SECOND District Court is in session at Ogden. <br><br> THE ELECTION in Salt Lake City on Monday on the canal question resulted in favor of the canal.<br><br> THE SALT Lake papers are divided in their opinions as to the Geo. W. Drake Tragedy. Some say it was a suicide while others claim it was a murder. <br><br> A TELEGRAM from Monroe, U. T. April 5, says that the "People's Store," dealers in merchandise was burned here between 1 and 2 o'clock this morning. Being a frame building, the flames spread rapidly, destroying everything it contained. Salesman Madsen and family, who lived in an adjoining room, narrowly escaped with their lives. Lost estimated at $7,400. There are strong indications of the fire having been incendiary. Great indignation and excitement prevail. <br><br> Another from Richfield, April 5, says: "Last night the valuable hay stack of Stanley I. ??? of Prattville, containing probably 50 tons, was destroyed by fire, supposed to be incendiary." The following is from the Junction: "As an indication of what we are coming in in the matter of the precious metals, we will state that a bar of bullion, over ninety per cent. Fine, taken from ore, obtained within six miles of Odgen, was exhibited to us to-day. It is genuine, and those who choose to be incredulous can be satisfied by making inquiries. Let the good work go on." <br><br> The Junction states that the people of Ogden, irrespective of party on last Saturday evening presented ??? Governor Emery with a god watch and a chain. <br><br> |
