Show FIVE KABYLE CHIEFS, representing the inhabitants of a portion of the coast of Morocco, have lately arrived at Malaga to petition the Governor of Granada and the Spanish Government to undertake the protectorate of the districts from which they come. Strong hopes are expressed by the Spanish press that the authorities will accede to this request. The annexation lately made by Germany, it is urged, beginning with that the Danish Duchies and ending with that of the provinces of ??? and Lorraine; the annexation made by Italy from Sicily to the Papal States, by England and India to Cyprus, and the occupation of Bosnia by Austria were all the results of more or less costly wars but now Spain is freely offered a territory with some forty-five miles of seacoast extending thirty miles inland, and inhabited by 13,000 men, women, and children. |
