Show DEADWOOD, April 6. - A Times special from Perry Point, Montana, under date of April 3d says Captain Huggens with three companies of the Second Cavalry, who started out after the hostile Sioux on the 25th, overtook them yesterday (Friday) thirty-five miles south of here. The troops charged the camp and captured forty-six ponies, but the Indians got into a ravine and could not be got out. Sergeant Johnson, of Company C. Second cavalry, was killed during the charge. General Miles, who was on his way east, hearing of the fight, stopped at Fallon Creek, where he now awaits the arrival of reinforcements which left for Keogh on Friday night under Lieut. Clark. A later dispatch says that two Indians were captured. They will arrive at Chicago on the Wednesday morning, April 11, where quite a number of persons will join the excursion and leave on the 10 a.m. train via the Chicago & North-western railroad for California. <br><br> CHICAGO, April 7. - An important arrest was made last night, of Harry Webb and wife, who for several months past have been working in the hotels of this city and notably in the Grand Pacific where they have secured a very large amount of plunder and in every case without leaving any clue behind. They have been shadowed for some days now, at the instance of Samuel Turner of the Grand Pacific who noticed Webb wearing a pair of his sleeve buttons, and last night, after they had retired, they were captured by officers at their place of lodging, 161 Madison Street. Property consisting of jewelry, ladies' shawls, dresses, etc. aggregating in value from eight to ten thousand dollars was captured, also a bunch of keys fitted for rooms in all the principal hotels in the city was found in their room. Webb has also passed under the name of Pease and came here a few months ago from California. Several letters from San Francisco, addressed to him to that name, have been received lately. The woman who claims to be his wife gives her name as Mattie. They have been the most acute thieves who ever did business in Chicago. <br><br> SAN FRANCISCO, April 7. - The Board of Supervisors passed resolutions which it is said will lead to the impeachment of Mayor Kallock. |
