Show Brother T. C. D. Howell, living in Clifton, had a very exciting adventure on Sunday, the 13th inst. Brother Howell's home lies between Clifton and Oxford, and on the day named a cinnamon bear drove a herd of sheep down from the mountains to his place. A dog got after the bear, and was followed by Brother Howell, who was armed only with a willow club. Notwithstanding the kind of weapon he had he attacked bruin and slew him. On the following day a dealer in hides and pelts came along and Brother Howell sold to him the skin, and seeing that the bear had been killed on Sunday he donated the proceeds to the Logan Temple. Brother Howell is over 60 years of age, and was one of the Mormon Battalion. He takes some pride in this deed of valor. |
