Show We are indebted to Elder A. H. Snow of Brigham City, now laboring in Tennessee for a copy of the Nashville Daily American of Nov. (November) 14th, which contains the following item. One hundred and fifty Mormons from various portions of Tennessee and Georgia left here via the Southeastern division, for Utah, in charge of Elder John Morgan. The elder said he would pick up fifty more converts between Nashville and St. (Saint) Louis. Thirty of the one hundred and fifty that left here were from Nashville and vicinity. For the most part they seemed to be illiterate and poor people, willing to accept the promise of lands in Utah. They appeared to be in good spirits if not elated with the prospect of going west. In the columns of the same paper it would appear that the subject of polygamy had been discussed by the editors and a correspondent, and in the present issue the correspondent replies in a letter which we shall reproduce next week, not having space in this issue. |
