Show FINE RACE. On Saturday, Oct. 17th, an exciting race took place between "Ewing" and a horse lately brought from the east, called "Bateman." The latter we understand, was en route for Montana, but stopped off at Salt Lake expressly for a race with "Ewing." In the second heat the horses came in collar to collar in 2:33 ½. The judges pronounced in a dead heat. In the third heat, "Bateman" made it in 2:3? ½, winning the race and money. This is the best time ever made in Utah, and, as the Salt Lake Herald says, has never been surpassed except by such exhibition horses as "Goldsmith Maid" and "Rarus." |
