Four men woro picked up by a passing pass-ing steamer. Fostor Island 11(13 a short dlstanco off tho northeast coast, of Tasmania, nnd 1b surrounded by dangerous shoals. Early Sunday tho residents of tho Island observed a largo ship In distress. dis-tress. A gnlo, accompanied by a high sou, was blowing, nnd tho vcBsel soon struck tho reef. The crow could bo soon trying to lower tho bonto, when suddenly tho ship sank. To attempt a rescue of the ship was Imposslblo on account of tho heavy bciis, but a Btcamcr Jn tho dlstanco had sighted tho wreck nnd mado all speed to whoro tho ship had Bono down. Only four men woro found. They were clinging to an upturned boat. |
