Show We consider our Dixie climate so admirably adapted to the growth of sweet potatoes that we give the following fol-lowing room. The sweet Potato Ipomcea batas belong to the morning glory family Convolvulacece. The enlarged root is Prized as a vegetable, while the long vines are not generally utilized, although of value as a food for live stock. Authorities have not been able to agree whether the sweet potato owes its origin to America or to the East Indies. In the warmer regions of both the Eastern and the Western continents it is extensively cultivated. culti-vated. According to the census to 1890, the United States propuces annually in round numbers 44,000,000 bushels of sweet potatoes. New Jersey is the most northerly State in which sweet potatoes are extensively cultivated. culti-vated. However, good crops have been matured at Geneva, N. Y., and Lincoln, Neb., on the grounis of the agricultural experiment stations. In gardens still father north the sweet potato has been cultivated.
