Show Written for Tk Union. PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. (Continued) At a general Conference held on the 5th, 6th and 7th of October, 1852, elder George Q. Cannon was blessed and set apart by the laying on of hands of the elders, ot translate the Book of Mormon into the Hawaiian Ha-waiian language, Pillip B. Lewis, President of the mission being mouth. This conference was attended atten-ded by about two thousand natives, including about eight hundred who had already joined the Church. After conference was over I visited a branch that had been built up by elder Cannon, at a place called Kula, and the next day the Saints furnished me a horse to ride five miles further to visit a prominent native gentleman who had joined the Church at which place I arrived about noon, and he gave me my dinner, consisting of roasted kid meat, roasted sweet potatoes, and Goat's milk, which I enjoyed very much. The next day being Sunday, I held two meetings and bapti, zed two females. A few days afterward I preached, and I was called on to lay hands on a lad who had felt from a horse and broke his arm, and as soon he was administered to, I was taken sick, and was administered to by brother Napela, a native who had joined the Church and had been ordained an Elder at our late conference, con-ference, and I was soon healed. The lad was all right next day and was out playing with other children. H. W. B. To be continued. |
