Show I The Devil's Version. c - We find the f ollowing in a New ; ' York publication: To the Editor of Man: ; I hav been reading the Book of : Matthew, in the new revision of the ' ; t :New Testament, and find that it has been gotten up in the interest of the devil. The first inkling I got of this was when I turned to the I Lord's Prayer. The revision goes on without any notable change until un-til where it reads in the authorized version, "deliver us from evil," the t ."new revision renders it, "deliver us . . from the evil one." Of course this means deliver us from the devil. The standard version concludes the prayer with the words, "for I , thine is the kingdom, the power and I. the glory, tor ever, amen. This . concluding part is entirely omitted in the new version. There is not . t even the finale of "amen." How fc i comes this omission, of this grand .concluding expression or worship-i worship-i ' ful reverence to the Supreme Be-. Be-. ing? It must be that the devil could not permit its utterance after so emphatic a recognition of his I . ' Satanic Majesty. " -Another proof that this is the , devils version is to be found in the ' twenty-third chapter, where J esus II utters a succession of curses upon I . ; certain characters. The fourteenth ! verse of this chapter reads in the authorized version as follows: ! : "Woe unto you, Scribes and Phar-asees, Phar-asees, hypocrites, for ye devour widows houses, and for a pretence make long prayers; therefor ye n . shall receive the greater condemn-i condemn-i ation." Not a word of this is found H ' ' in the new revision. The gospel H ; has been knocked out of this mele- I, . diction against usurers and land Hp " monopolists by satanic influences. IE If the devil keeps on in this way . he wil, by successiv revisions, hav Hp the christian religion all in his own H, ' favor. Practically he has it all his H own way now, and all he needs to I perpetuate his supremacy is to hav '.. the New Testament changed, little : by little, until it is all in favor of , the rich and against the poor, then ;, his plutonic kingdom wil be estab-ll estab-ll lished forever. .t The copy of the new revision I .-"': am criticising has the imprint, "New York Book Exchange, 764 Broadway, 1881." If it is not a correct copy of the new revision, those who got it .up ought to be prosecuted for fraud. It looks very suspicious. E. E. Boyd. 224 W. 16th street, New York" We beg leave to differ with the correspondent of "Man," in regard to the devil gaining possession and his "kingdom" being "established forever," for it is plainly written in the 2nd chapter and 2nd verse of Isaiah, "And.it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established estab-lished in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills." In the 3rd chapter and 11 verse, it says; "Woe unto the wick- 1 ed! it shall be ill with him; for the 1 reward of his hands shall be given him;" and in the 4th chapter and 1st verse of Malachi, it says.; "Eor, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh com-eth shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch."
