Show River In Utah Offers Double Power Factor BASIN of UPPER GREEN CAN De-VELOP De-VELOP 400,000 II. P. SURVEY REVEALS Construction of storage reservoirs In the upper Green river basin would -practically double the present potential power factor, according to n report on "The Upper Colorado River and Its Utilization,' issued Saturday by the federal geological survey. At 40 sites in the upper Green river section, the report says, there is total undeveloped power amounting to 117-000-horsepower for use 90 per cent of the time or 222,0000-horsepower for 50 per cent time use, Storage reservoirs reser-voirs would Increase the figures to about 300,000 and 400,000-horsepower, respectively. Possibilities for development of the upper Colorado areo are minutely considered con-sidered from techlncal standpoints. It says the drainage in this section is 20,500 square miles with an average annual run-off of 0.600,000 acre feet. The figure Is 45 per cent of that at y Ix?es Ferry on the Colorado. The report shows that in this area about 5G4.000 acres are Irrigated at present, and that within 50 years the area may be increased to 1.2.10,000 acreas. Irrigation of the additional J land will reduce the average annual run-off by 1,000,000 acre-feet. Transmountain diversions of wafer out of this part of the Colorado river basin now amount to 20,000 acre-feet annually, the report says, which may le increased to 300.000 acre-feet, if the additional - projects described in the report are developed. |
