Show MAIL CHANGE Price wants our mail route, and we don't blame them. Last Thursday's Sun-Advocate, ran an appeal to Price business organizations organiz-ations to defend a payroll of $3000.00 monthly mrought to that community by the Uintah Basin's Mail Route- We do not blame Price for being selfish in this matter. A Community must be selfish If It Is to progress, but we do wish they would state the matter in its true light. They try to blame the change on Salt Lake City's selfish attitude, maintaining maintain-ing that the present route will give the best service. For example, we quote "It Is pointed out that much better service ser-vice is rendered the reservation section through the route as now! existing than could be possible over the proposed Salt Lake City system, the west-bound mail being be-ing received here at 3:30 a. m. and being dispatched out at 6:25 the same morning, the train bearing bear-ing the mail known as No. 1 not arriving In Salt Lake City until 8:30. Morning papers are now delivered through the local route In Vernal at 10 a. m., this being claimed as a distinct advantage over the proposed Salt Lake City route.' According to a checkup conducted con-ducted our Postmater, Mr. Fitz-water, Fitz-water, about 15 perecent of the Uintah Basin mail from the East comes in over the train they mention men-tion in their paragraph, the balance bal-ance coming In over the Northern route, and under the present system brought all the way around by Price, and then Into the Basin. As to the papers, Vernal would get them at practically practi-cally the same time, but would get the early morning edition instead in-stead of the midnight edition, we are now getting. Why did not Price say that the request for the change, comes not from Salt ake City, but from the people most interested, the Uintah Basin residents, who want mainly not payrolls, but the best possible poss-ible service. Wfey do they fail to mention the .reports of the special investigators invest-igators sent out from Washington, Washing-ton, who found that on annual saving variously estimated at from $9,000 to $15,000 would result re-sult from the change? Why do they fail to mention that an order sent to Salt Lake City from any of the principle towns in the Basin can be filled the same day, and returned the next, under the proposed change, whereas now It must be filled on the second day, and returned to the Basin on the third? Or that a letter which is mailed in Salt Lake City in the morning will be received In plenty of time to be answered and delivered de-livered in Salt Lake City again I the same day? Or that Air Mail from the Uintah Basin will be advanced ad-vanced seven hours? Why? Price has three thousand thou-sand reasons per month why, and as we said before, we do not blame them. We do blame the residents, of the Uintah Basin, though, If, they let Price which is raising Its cry entirely for a payroll cry louder than we do, who want the payroll too, but more than that want Mail Service. Ser-vice. I'ts our Mail, let's do our own Shouting.! |
