Show o DUCHESNE MAY GET WATERWORKS LOAN Utah, among other states comes under the wrath of Harold L. Ickes, secretary of the United States Deparment of the Interior, and Public Works Administrator, it is learned in dispatches from Washington, because the state be-longs be-longs in a group of Commonwealths Common-wealths which have as yet submitted sub-mitted no state, county or munl-clal munl-clal self-liquidating projects on which the Public Works Board can act. Secretary Ickes, pointed out that nearly half of the $3,300,000 public works funds have been allotted, al-lotted, told newspapermen that he was far from satisfied at the speed non-Federal bodies showed in bringing their projects forward. for-ward. In order to speed up these projects pro-jects the administrator said that hereafter only a surface presentation presenta-tion of facts would be necessary to obtain a tentative allotment and that granta would be made as soon as a projects was shown to be desirable, feasible from an en. gineering standpoint and financed properly under law. Allotments made, under this plan are to be cancelled in 30 days unless the state or Municipality has executed a final contract for the project, satisfactory to the administration. Committees and engineers In Utah are preparing programs of feasible projects here, and Gov. Henry H. Blood is being urged by some to take trip to Washington j with a fairly complete program for Utah, including reclamation I projects in this state. I Atty. Robt. G. Porter is work-j work-j ing with Duchesne City Council in preparing an application for a ' new water system in Duchesne to i be sumbitted to the public works board. The city has made several , attempts to get this project sub- mltted but has been held back j each time because of technicali-j ies in the financial contract. It j is hoped that the attitude now being shown by the administra-( tion will be helpful in getting an( I allottment for this project, as it would be of great help to the en-J j tire community, both in an improved im-proved water system, and as a means of furnishing much needed; . employment. It is urged that the project be i presented with the utmost speed I so that the funds may be made available while the weather will still permit construction. |
