Show THE GET ACQUAINTED EXCURSION. EX-CURSION. Tho "get acquainted" excursion of tho Merchants and Manufacturers' association as-sociation to Logan and intermcdiato points was a signal success everywhere every-where the excursionists stopped, except ex-cept at Ogden. Practically no Ogden people joined tho excursion and the Salt Lakers were given a very frigid reception in Ogden. It is a pity that such a bad feeling should exist between be-tween Salt Lake and Ogden. There is no good reason why it should bo so and there are many excellent rear sons why it should not bo so. It requires re-quires no great amount of reasoning I power to demonstrate that what Is I good for Ogden is good for Salt Lake I and vlco versa. What is good for tho I state is good for both Salt Lako and I Ogden and every other city in the I state. It's very short sighted policy I for tho two most important cities in I the state to bo at outs on account of I little petty jealousies. It shows a con- I tracted narrow minded spirit on the R part of both cities which It would bo Jt tor tho benefit of both to forget. In ff Brigham City tho excursionists were received with open arms and mado fit thoroughly welcome, while at Logan- fi their objective point, the town was m turned over to them. Nothing was JB too good for them and everything was BJ free as air. Carriage rides, sleigh rides, feasting, eating and drink, a R warm hand-shako and a warm wel- como without money and without m price. Although the excursion was a K pleasure affair its primo object was fl business. Tho merchants, not only in B Salt Lako but in most towns of the ft stato buy quantities of merchandise K abroad which they might' just as well I buy from home manufacturers. They should, however, buy at home when-over when-over tbey can. The old cry, "patronize "patron-ize homo industries" is as good today as it ever was. Tho manufacturers and tho merchants should know each other better, know tho needs of each oher's business. Such acquaintance and knowledge would bo beneficial to all. To promote this was tho object of the pilgrimage and from all indications indica-tions it will bear good fruits. The Oregon Short Line Railroad company mado an exceedingly low rate for tho trip and did everything possible for tho comfort and enjoyment of tho 200 or 300 persons who made tho trip. n |
