Show Sporting Gossip Iver Redman has resigned as manager of the Salt Palace track, being succeeded by Harry Hcagren. Race "politics" undoubtedly had a great deal to do with Iver's decision to cut loose from the game; and it's too bad. Iver is a clever, popular young man, and there are many who would have liked to have seen him remain at the head of affairs the remainder of the season. Heagren is not an unknown quantity in the bicycle racing game, having successfully handled the affairs of the Salt Palace track on a previous occasion, being popular alike with the riders and the public. Again this season Salt Lake has been ignored in the national bicycle champion races, all the races being held in the east. As the majority of the fastest riders in the world are riding in Salt Lake, it would seem that this city should be entitled to some consideration in the matter. As it is, it is probable that the winners of the championships champion-ships for the different distances would not stand a ghost of a show should they be matched against Clarke, Mayer, McFarland, Samuelson or half a dozen other riders who are appearing at the Salt Palace and Saltair. It is this system of awarding championships that makes the title cheap and not worth contending for. "Slim" Hall, the former Salt Lake pitcher, is making good in the Western league. The recent benefit given by the bicycyle riders and the management manage-ment of the Salt Palace track netted just $1,200, which has been turned over to Norman Hopper, who was so seriously injured while training for a race a few weeks ago. A worthy act for a worthy and conscien-V conscien-V tious sportsman. S Many of the sports who went up to Utah Hot Springs to see the (scrap between "Cyclone" Thompson and "Kid" Dalton are still hollering holler-ing their heads off over the treatment accorded them by what some of the boys term a "rube sheriff." The sheriff stopped the fight after Thompson had put the Kid down a couple of times, leaving no alternative alter-native to the referee but to give the fight to the aggressor, Thompson. While the majority of the dissatisfied ones admit that Dalton would probably have been knocked out before the fight went the limit, they feel that he was not out at the time and might have come back strong and given them a run for their money had the sheriff kept his bill out.
