Show JEAN HELD. In the curious little studio over his father's art store, Jean Held spends the greater part of his time with the work he loves. When a student of the High School, he did the illustrating illustrat-ing for Red and Black displaying original or-iginal and clever drawings. He was born under the blue skies of Salt Lake City twenty years ago. Hiss ancestry, of French and Swiss nationalities, nation-alities, were all talented artists, so Jean comes by his ability naturally. It is his ambition to become an illustrator il-lustrator and at present he is engaged engag-ed in making caricatures of professional profes-sional theatrical stars. Maud Adams is one of the student's admirers and on her recent engagement in Salt Lake gave him her photograph as Peter Pan with original signature which adorns the wall of the studio. Several theatrical pictures recently completed arc of exceptional merit, especially "Before The Overture," "The Curtain Call" (in oil), "Song and Dance" (in water color), "The Concert Hall Artist" and "Hoop Roller" Rol-ler" (in pastel) show more than ordinary or-dinary ability. From his earliest ch'ldhood, (Jean evidenced the unusual un-usual nature of his talent for drawing draw-ing and illustrating, but his work is mostly of a humorous type. His burlesque of The Utah Art exhibit should make a successful run as a poster. Fink, of Boston, recently published various humorous valentines designed design-ed by Jean which met wit' ready sales. In appearance he is decidedly athletic; ath-letic; above medium height, broad shouldered, dresses in careless but pleasing attire. His brown eyes are full of mirth and he is always smiling. smil-ing. His hair is dark brown while his hands show muscular strength combined with artistic capability. One of his distinguishing traits is to work with lis slouch hat set well back on his head, and thus he paints and draws his cartoons in the quaint garret full of curious collections, dreaming of the days when he will go to New York to study more thoroughly thor-oughly his chosen profession.
